Carillon Champions Leftfield Electronica in ‘Venus’

The funny thing with ‘Venus’ is that I got distracted while I was listening to it; so the record kept playing in the background, and I surfed the web for a while. Then I realized that I was feeling hopeful and vibrant – something magic was happening. ‘Venus’ was doing its thing; acting as a glorious soundtrack and drenching everything in sonic euphoria and nuanced magical flair, thanks to its crepuscular electronica and emotional character.

Firmly in the leftfield universe, the double single seems to draw inspiration from the likes of Four Tet and Bonobo, among others. Amassing layers of ever-modulating synths and percussive samples (such as a vibraphone), ‘Venus’ and ‘Moon Knob’ provides a highly hypnotizing listening journey, one that won’t be forgotten anytime soon – trust us on that.

Actually, a specific album comes to mind; 2015’s Morning/Evening by Four Tet. The same witty use of pointillism and gradual changes of intensity are applied by Carillon, Baltimore-based creative with obviously a great deal of musical knowledge. If this is anything to go by, I am expecting much more fireworks from him in the future.
