Described by the artist as “perhaps my biggest and boldest project yet,” ‘Headless’ is the brand new album from Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Carey Clayton. An artist whose work I previously discovered via his art-rock project Fore Fader, Carey is a true musical visionary, and ‘Headless’ flawlessly captures his bold and fearless approach.
An eclectic concept record at its core, the sixteen-track offering is a dreamy, psychedelic, indie-rock gem. Rich synths, interweaving guitars, ethereal vocals, and complex percussion seamlessly coalesce to create a mesmerizing auditory journey that the listener won’t soon forget.
Tunes like ‘Light On’ and ‘Infinite Figure’ will transport you to a place of comfort and serenity, while others like ‘Into Shadow’ and ‘The Gate’ deliver a more upbeat and intense sonic experience. Think Tame Impala meets Radiohead meets Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Other personal favourites on this incredible album include ‘Self Portraits’, ‘Reflector’, and the absolutely stunning closer ‘Point of View’. Truthfully, however, ‘Headless’ is a record that should be digested from start to finish. It deserves your full attention and, when provided, promises a deeply rewarding and immersive musical odyssey. A truly exceptional album, I can’t recommend it more highly!
