Canadian Folk Duo Viridian Shares Soothing Gem ‘Preface’

There’s something extremely solemn and soothing in Viridian’s latest single, ‘Preface’. In fact, there’s something special about the artists themselves. Emerging from Canada, the talented duo have been spending the last seven years working on their sound and their aesthetic, a long and rewarding journey that took them from their teenage years to adulthood. They changed, and their music changed with them.

Taken from Viridian’s beautiful debut album, ‘How To Survive In The Woods’, ‘Preface’ acts as its opening track. Frankly, there couldn’t be a better introduction to the Vancouver-based duo: Michael Di Spirito’s poignant notes and Danielle Davie’s soothing vocals are the echo chamber of a primordial fragility, an intimacy that wraps the listener with a warm blanket of hope and reckoning, providing perhaps a much needed moment of solace.

Stylistically, we are in folk territories, although Viridian walk their own sonic path, experimenting with textures and organic arrangements. In ‘Preface’, we even find a charming guitar solo, the perfect companion to a wonderful track.
