While it’s not our first time covering Bri Carter, the project nowadays seems to have evolved greatly, smoothing its explosive energy in favour of more nuanced emo and nostalgic stylings with a strong punk-rock contour. However, at a closer look, punchy electronic beats still find their way home. ‘I CAN’T LOOK AWAY’ is the strongest evidence of that: Carter’s latest album, the record is certainly gloomy and evocative, but also intense and meaningful.
Focus track ‘i wish i loved u first’ fully embraces Bri’s more organic character, navigating emotional pop-rock with cathartic and fierce vocals. Carter’s delivery is perfect, incredibly vibrant and hard-hitting. Past singles such as ‘ur gf listens to my music’ show a different side of the project, bolder and heavier. The lyrical intensity stays the same, and that’s where the American creative shines the most.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘i wish i loved u first’, she explains: “It is about wishing you met someone earlier in life – before giving your time to anybody else because it just feels like a waste when you could have been spending it with this person instead”.
