Braulio Cruz Shares Honest Jewel ‘Panic Mode’

There’s a certain aura of nostalgia in ‘Panic Mode’, although we wouldn’t describe it as retro. Rather, the track seems to draw inspiration from early ‘2000 electronic pop, with massive, punchy percussions and noisy synthetisers. Recorded at the Songwriter Factory in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and produced by Randy Bergida, the record embodies everything that Braulio Cruz stands for: openness, honesty, and a charming no-frills approach to music.

Emerging from New York, Cruz takes an important, cathartic step, using songwriting as a means of expression and therapy. As he explains: “The song is about early trauma that affects our capacity for intimacy. During the recording, I felt my voice open up in new ways, moving more towards the chest and becoming less self-conscious.”

Influenced by pop and synthpop icons such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Depeche Mode, Braulio develops a style that’s both nostalgic and contemporary, allowing the listener to float in a timeless universe, one where poignancy is tended to, and lyricism can be as authentic as possible. That’s how ‘Panic Mode’ feels.
