Brainheart: “Music is the guardian angel who brings me peace of mind every day”

For Brainheart, music has always been a deep-rooted necessity. Championing a kaleidoscopic and poignant EDM aesthetic, the Dj and producer debuted in 2019 with ‘Explore the World’, a powerful and emotional anthem sung by his sister. To global surprise, the track went on to be a massive success, gaining a whopping two million streams on Spotify alone, and going viral by soundtracking more than 450k reels on Instagram.

With a debut of that magnitude, it is easy to predict a bright career for Brainheart. It is also easy to understand what connects his music to so many people. Relatable songwriting, introspective melodies and cinematic flair: all ingredients that greatly inform the talented producer’s artistic output.

‘The Strange Kids’ is Brainheart’s latest release, a brief EP which sheds light on what the future has in store for him. Between EDM extravaganza, the title-track focuses on mainstream hip-hop (feat Dorel), signalling Brainheart’s creativity is ready to take a leap, expanding his activities and influences.

Intrigued by the project, we caught up with him to find out more about the project and future goals… Interview below!

Hey Brainheart, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?

Hey, I am great. I am an independent music producer, songwriter, and DJ that is unbound by genres. I produce mainly electronic music but other genres too (pop, acoustic, and more…). I am a dream chaser and musician who believes that artists should be very versatile and open-minded to new genres. My goal is to leave a legacy and make a lasting impact, I want to touch people, make them happy and emotional. I believe that music is the best way to connect with people and share messages because it’s a universal language. I want to be an inspiration for many generations to come.

Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?

I fell in love with music when I was really young, about 4 years old. My mom used to listen to classical music and I fell in love immediately. During the years I struggled a lot with loneliness, anger and emptiness. Music was there for me in the darkest times. I believe that music is my saviour, the guardian angel who makes me happy and brings me peace of mind every day. We live in a mad world and music is the most honest and pure thing we can find. I grew up and I fell in love with more genres, especially EDM. There is something unique about electronic music. I taught myself how to play the piano at the age of 15 and a year later, I decided to produce music.

You exploded in 2019 with a charming folk/Edm gem, ‘Explore The World’. The track did very well both on streaming services and social media. Did its success take you by surprise?

Absolutely, the biggest surprise of my life. The song started to take off only a year after I released it. I sent so many emails to travel Instagram influencers and pages and no one answered. I lost hope and told myself that if the record wouldn’t explode by 2021 I will have to delete it (terrible attitude, I was a beginner). One day I checked my analytics and I was hooked. People started using it on their Instagram videos and it went viral. Suddenly the Spotify algorithm pushed the song to more people. This song touches so many people and I am extremely grateful. It’s been a really cool thing to see the message in the song have such a profound impact on people. I was in such a strange place in life when this song came out. The success of this song gave me confidence. It made me believe I am good enough and that I must continue no matter what.

Are we correct in thinking that ‘Sis’ stand for your own sister? Are you planning more releases together in the future?

Yes, my sister is the best! Her voice is incredible and she is a talented musician. Hell yeah, I think we will work on more songs in the future but not soon because she is very busy (She is studying for a degree). Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to develop a music career, she prefers to make music as a hobby but I believe that we will collaborate more in the future.

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

I prefer to write music alone because I feel more connected to my soul, but I believe that sometimes it’s good to work with others, new perspectives can help a lot with the creative process.

Your latest collaboration with Dorel seems to signal a shift from pure EDM into a more eclectic blend of genres. Is it something you are actively pursuing?

Absolutely, this year I allowed myself to be open to new genres and combine different styles of music. I really love pop, punk and rock so I wanted to blend elements from these genres and electronic music. I will definitely make more songs like this one in the future. I have a lot of inspirations but lately, I listen to “Bring Me The Horizon” and “Bad Omens” a lot. These bands help me mentally and musically a lot. I feel that my creativity and the way I think evolved because of them.

Are you doing any live gigs?

Not yet, because in my country most people don’t listen to music in English so it’s tough. My main goal is to get an artist visa and move to the U.S. I believe that I will be able to develop my music career in the U.S. much faster and I will have plenty of opportunities.

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

Keep making music and touching people’s hearts and souls. I want to keep growing my socials and fanbase and of course, evolve and become a better version of myself – as a musician and as a person.
