Book/Spirit Unleash Expansive New Single ‘Meant To Be’

‘Meant To Be’ is the latest single from Brooklyn-based alternative-rock act Book/Spirit, and it’s a crunchy and anthemic number from a seriously talented bunch! Answering the question of what The Strokes would sound like had they come upon post-punk instead of pre-punk, ‘Meant To Be’ is an expansive and ingenious gem. Originally conceived courtesy of a Joy Division-esque guitar riff, there’s a grit and a spirit to the tune that is deeply catchy and unforgettable. The guys also display some deft musicianship around the two-minute mark, when they bring us back down to earth for a while before catapulting us straight back in! Genius!

Lyrically, guitarist and vocalist Michael Susa says that the track is about fighting for a person who just isn’t right for you, and all those around you know it. “You continue to rationalize it to yourself because of a desperate lust and attraction,” he says. “Even as they grow more distant and you aren’t even sure you know anything about who this person is any more”.

‘Meant To Be’ will form part of Book/Spirit’s forthcoming debut album which is scheduled for release sometime early next year. If this is a sign of things to come, I believe the band’s future work will play a significant role in the alternative-rock scene.
