Echoing the classic sound of vintage pop rock, BON FEU remind us of the likes of R.E.M. and U2. Showcasing rather emotional and heartfelt songwriting, the group balances over melodic guitar matter and a certain 90s energy, as it transpires in the groovy drum rhythms and the sporadic electronic addition. Eventually, head honcho Marcus Valance takes it home with his gritty, warm vocals, so wholesome and evocative while remaining fuzzy and edgy.
That’s how ‘Everlasting Flowers’ sounds like. Honestly, it’s a pretty good record. Taken from BON FEU’s debut album ‘Strange Place’, expected in the next few months, the single is the group’s second offering to date, and as such, it widens the sonic horizon, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. The future is bright, as they say.
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Joel Bogen completes the lineup, empowering Valance’s songwriting towards pure, unadulterated and relatable storytelling. The results are absolutely irresistible, with ‘Everlasting Flower’ being such a meaningful track. As the pair explain: “It tells of the outbreak of war, addiction and social behaviours most people would shy away from talking about.”
