Journeying through pensiveness to joyous rock ‘n’ roll and back again, ‘Lesson Number Two’ is the beautiful new release from Santa Cruz-based singer/songwriter Bob Gemmell. A deeply personal offering, the tune deals with crossing over to the other side and the inevitable passage to the next world.
“When my mother was passing…she gave me short lessons – things she considered important…they all made their way into this song,” says Bob.
Recorded at Lucky Dog Studio in Oregon, ‘Lesson Number Two’ is a rich and nostalgia-laced piece of music that expertly blends emotion with musical craftsmanship. It provides a heartfelt glimpse into Gemmell’s voyage through loss and love – and offers a comforting sense of closure and hope to those grappling with similar experiences.
Influenced generally by the likes of Wilco, R.E.M., Bob Dylan, and The Replacements to name a few, Bob admits to listening to a lot of Lord Huron and The Moody Blues at the time of the track’s creation. Masterfully intertwining classic influences with his own distinctive touch, Gemmell has crafted a tune that is as evocative as it is unique. A true jewel from start to finish!
