Blueburst Return Pt.1: Meaningful Cover of ‘Train in Vain’

It’s been an important week for Blueburst. In fact, it’s been a crucial year. Emerging from Atlanta, the talented soft rock outfit debuted back in March with ‘Vanish’, a piece we described as “channelling a plethora of rock influences from the 90s, it balances among brute, punchy force and mellow melodies.”. It was clear that the project had a lot of strengths by its side: formed by vocalist and guitarist Craig Douglas Miller and fellow guitarist Marty Willson-Piper, the group ends up being a fantastically talented pair, also enhanced by the flashy career and previous experience they are able to boast.

Blueburst return this week with a double single, ‘Train in Vain’ and ‘Amplify Me’, both finding a collective home in the eclectic yet inspired artistry so proudly championed by the duo. Of the two, ‘Train in Vain’ is the more conventional offering, being a cover of the famous The Clash’s banger ‘Train in Vain (Stand By Me)’. Notably, the song finds a new and refreshing home in the Atlanta-based outfit’s musical avenues. Leaving euphoria and fast-paced punk grooves behind, Blueburst gives the track a mellow, poignant outlook, perfectly fitting its lyrical inspiration.

As Miller explains: “[In 2020] There was so much going on in the country, with the George Floyd murder, pandemic, and everything else. For some reason, it dawned on me that these lyrics about a breakup could also be from a disillusioned American singing to their country. So we took the song and gave it a more somber tone.”
