Following up on last year’s ‘Giddy Up’ and ‘Trip The Light’, dreamy electronic trio BlueBelle is now embracing the next step in their bubbling career, with ‘Hidden’, a whimsical, dazzling single that is as evocative as it is hazy and airy. Featuring Maeve Bluebell Tonkin Wells’ sublime, elegant vocals and musicians Chloe Beth Smith and Tom Griffin’s imaginative aural tones, the group delivers a nugget of lusciousness and passion, playfully flamboyant in its execution, yet also mysterious and liminal.
Produced by Simon Willey (Bryan Ferry, Alex James), ‘Hidden’ marks the start of a productive year for BlueBelle. Judging by what we have heard so far, we are in for good things. The trio is consistently moving into sultrier, alternative territories, perhaps embracing a darker side that’s been dormant so far. Borrowing from the great synth-pop tradition as much as they do from trip-hop textures and leftfield electronica, BlueBelle look proudly forward.
Delving into the inspiration behind ‘Hidden’, they explain: “Writing this song was a time of transformation for all of us. It was the song that really solidified the group and our ambitions for the band. The chorus says it all – ‘I’m not hidden anymore’ is the call to be out and proud – for all our scars to be what makes us remarkable.”
