We at Mesmerized first came across the eclectic work of California-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Brian Kassan last year. Performing under the moniker of Bloomfield Machine, his sixteen-track album ‘Left to Our Own Devices’ utterly amazed us. Labelling it a “rewarding sonic and sensory experience,” we’ve been holding our breath for his comeback, and with ‘Suiteness,’ we can now finally exhale.
Yet another sixteen-track offering, ‘Suiteness’ is an auditory adventure that surprises and delights. Tunes like ‘On a Bender’ and ‘Something Shifted’ instantly embed themselves in your consciousness, while others like ‘The Normal Amount of Pain’ and ‘Upload Yourself’ almost demand multiple listens to be fully understood and appreciated.
“I think my style boils down to artful noise and texture mixed with memorable melodies,” says Brian. I couldn’t have summed it up better myself! It’s deeply intriguing – an immersive and boundary-pushing journey that lingers long after the music fades.
Other personal favourites include the mystifying ‘Symmetry Mistake,’ the hard-hitting ‘Double Down,’ and the guitar-driven gem ‘Misery Bond’. Truthfully, however, it’s an album that deserves your undivided attention from start to finish. Genius. Simply genius!
