Blindness & Light’s ‘The Tannhäuser Gate’ Pays Homage to Dystopian Sci-Fi

Jeremy Bregman

Blindness & Light is the musical project of Anglesey-based artist Colin M Potter, and he’s just released his beautiful and cinematic new single entitled ‘The Tannhäuser Gate’. Described by the musician as his “homage to dystopian sci-fi”, the tune takes on an ethereal, floaty, and shoegazy vibe. It’s a relaxing and calmative track that takes you on a dreamy sonic rollercoaster you wish didn’t have to end. Closing out with an epic guitar solo and Thom Yorke-style vocals, ‘The Tannhäuser Gate’ is just an absolute winner from start to finish!

Potter draws on inspiration from a wide variety of acts; The Smiths, Joy Division, Radiohead, and Echo & the Bunnymen to name a few. As for his moniker, he explains that it “actually comes from Licht und Blindheit (Light and Blindness), which is the original release of ‘Atmosphere’ by Joy Division.” Wanting to put a more positive spin on his name, he switched the words around.

In conclusion, ‘The Tannhäuser Gate’ is a stunning release from Blindness & Light and serves as a fitting tribute to the dystopian sci-fi genre. It’s the perfect example of Colin M Potter’s ability to create truly cinematic and deeply emotional music.
