You’d be hard-pressed not to relate to Blair West’s latest offering. A decisively blissful and dreamy pop bijou, ‘Nostalgia’ seems to really evoke that very same sentiment, building delicate sonic tapestries around a wavey ocean of poignant vocal harmonies. We couldn’t ask for more: not following commercial tropes of fashion statements, West pursues her own artistic character, putting her music on the map as one of the most immersive and meaningful pop records we have heard this year.
Based in NYC, Blair West started sharing her songs only last year, finally returning to music after a few years spent building a parallel career. Crucially, it seemed her passion and prowess for it is stronger than ever, as highlighted so well in ‘Nostalgia’.
Lyrically, the song stems from the deep feelings of nostalgia West was able to experience during the pandemic, later making their way into the comforting and soothing track that we know today. As she explains: “Nostalgia is a beautiful thing to experience – but also a painful one. Feeling nostalgic for something that no longer exists, or something that was taken away from you, or something you know you’ll never have again. That type of longing feels unique but totally universal, and I always wanted to write a song about it.”
