Blackchords Release Latest Album ‘Connected // Forgotten’

There’s probably not much introduction needed for Blackchords, one of Australia’s greatest bands to emerge in the past decade. From the success of their debut album to the numerous inclusions in acclaimed TV shows, the group has enjoyed a long period of creative and commercial bliss. It’s not a surprise: the Melbourne outfit has managed to successfully blur the lines between indie-rock and more eclectic, leftfield stylings, embodying a sound that feels universal, while being rather niche.

‘Connected // Forgotten’ is the band’s latest effort, a stunning album delving into post-rock territories. Channelling cinematic energy and kaleidoscopic arrangement that reminds us of Radiohead, among others, the record also makes ample use of electronica, helping push Blackchords into more modern and contemporary references.

Recorded with long-time collaborator Nick Batterham (Rone, Cordrazine), ‘Connected//Forgotten’ saw the band work through the many lockdowns in Melbourne. Describing the lyricism behind the album, Blackchords explain: “It explores themes of love, grief, fear, and hope”.
