Hailing from Texas, Bill Godfrey is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and technologist. ‘Hypnotized’ is the artist’s debut release, and it’s a five-track EP that is unlike any I’ve heard before. As Godfrey blends elements of indie-pop and folk with a little blues and electronica, he goes about creating one of the most intriguing and impressive releases of the year! Thematically, the EP serves as a coming-of-age tale. “An exploration of a young mind that seeks identity and love, but struggles to break free from outside influence and control,” says Bill.
Getting things underway is the EP’s title track ‘Hypnotized’. A delicately picked and slightly dark acoustic guitar greets us before Godfrey’s honeyed, soulful, and emotionally charged vocals make their introduction. It’s the perfect start! ‘Sprightly Gentleman’ then follows, and brings forth a sort of alternative-country and folky sound. It’s incredibly unique and even features a rather deadly saxophone solo courtesy of Ray Zepeda.
‘Perfect Place’ is one of the most beautiful love tunes I’ve heard lately. The sparse instrumentation works a treat, and Bill’s heartfelt message gets to shine through. ‘Mama Help Me’ and ‘Patiently’ round off the EP, and I’m jealous that you get to experience them for the very first time! What an unbelievable debut!
