There’s a strong sense of nostalgia in BennyHonda SuperShifter’s musical outlook. Echoing the glory days of analogue sound, the Athens, GA creative manifests it both in sonic and songwriting terms. Take ‘Self Help’, for instance. Recorded with a refined lo-fi attitude and an organic, instruments-only vibe, the track also embraces no-frills lyricism, going back to ancient power-pop and punk vibes.
Going by the name of Ben Hackett by day, BennyHonda SuperShifter has managed to conceptualize a very peculiar sound signature for the project, sharing a refreshing take on pop – especially in a scene that’s sounding more and more artificial. Hackett doesn’t ask the AI for anything – rather, he turns on a Fender amplifier from the 70s, places a mic over it, and records his fuzzy and clean guitar tones through an analogue mixer. What more could you want?
Working at Chase Park Transduction Studios (in Athens, GA), the talented artist was able to build his craft and develop a glorious career as a recording engineer, mixer, and producer, working with some of the biggest names in the industry. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and former member of the band New Madrid, while currently playing with a handful of groups in his local and national scene.
Gearing up for an upcoming album, ‘Supershifter’, BennyHonda SuperShifter is pacing himself at the forefront of musical innovation. Stay tuned.
