One of the most relevant statements we read about Behind Sundown: “a project that focuses creating music without ego”. Headed by Welsh musician Owen Weston, the project is an international collaborative effort, in the sense that he connected with strangers around the world, asking them to contribute to his songs. Not surprisingly, it worked. After all, the planet is packed with talented musical souls. What’s more important to us, is the way Weston chooses to give up control over his material, accepting inputs from others and understanding that, often, if we manage to look beyond our little territory there’s infinite potential for growth.
That’s why ‘Music with Strangers, Vol.1’ is so good. A four-track EP, the record selects some of the best material Behind Sundown was able to piece together, showcasing the project as a rather innovative outfit, and an inspiration for many out there. Sonically, we are in heavy Bon Iver realms, with the Welsh talent clearly influenced by that very same bucolic, folktronica style that seems to be quite popular these days.
Speaking about the record, Behind Sundown reiterates: “Everyone is welcome to contribute to this journey, and I can only hope that it grows as time goes on”. The music is excellent – what are you waiting for?
