Listening to ‘Work of Love’ is an unexpected relief. A blissful moment of rest from the everyday hustle, a refuge from overwhelming stress. Becky Sikasa’s soothing and soulful vocals embrace the listener in a cloud of cathartic energy, dancing from note to note with majestic elegance. Encastoned into delicate and jazz-flavoured guitar, the record slowly makes its way to a full-band explosion, heightening ‘Work of Love’ into heavenly levels – some of the best RnB and Soul we have heard this year.
The first appearance in recorded music this year, ‘Work of Love’ sees Sikasa making a big statement towards her bright future while spreading lyrical relatability and introspection line after line.
Speaking about the single, she explains: “I think going into a relationship – especially your first love – with a certain naiveté can be beautiful. My first proper heartbeat shattered that understanding of if-you-just-love-each-other-enough movie-love, left me feeling not just disillusioned but (maybe due to my Adhd fueled larger-than-life emotions), properly let down, world-weary. Like my heart wasn’t just broken for this love but for love in general. Like the love I’d been sold was a lie.”
