Inspired by the incredible life of María Orosa, a Filipina food technologist, pharmaceutical chemist, humanitarian, and war heroine, Baze Blackwood uppers up his latest single ‘Banana Ketchup’. The Boston-based multi-talented artist is known for his vibrant, experimental, and unique style and, on ‘Banana Ketchup’, all are on full display. In combining a chewy, synth-pop-based soundscape with airy vocals and thought-provoking lyrics, Baze has concocted a mesmerizing and immersive little tune that I’ve fallen pretty hard for! Original, dreamy, superb!
The track is also our first peek into Blackwood’s upcoming full-length album ‘SEO’. A concept album that delves into our collective fixation on material objects and experiences, all in the face of looming destruction, it’s a record that I’m seriously looking forward to hearing! With his DIY approach to music, Baze is in full control over everything that he releases. It’s this freedom to experiment and explore that, in my humble opinion, gives him an edge.
With a decent-sized discography already to his name, Baze Blackwood is a musician who I’m eager to explore more. ‘Banana Ketchup’ is an absolute winner in every way, and I can see Baze making a real name for himself in the not-too-distant future!
