Boasting millions of streams on Spotify alone, B.Miles has been the recipient of an impressive artistic rise, something that’s been frankly overdue. Oscillating between melancholia and nostalgia, the New York-based songstress maintains a strongly relatable flair, often layered onto slices of indie-pop euphoria and guitar-based prowess. ‘Xmas Sox’ is the project’s latest effort, a festive single that doesn’t actually feel like one – which is a big compliment.
We could listen to ‘Xmas Sox’ any month of the year, although its lyrical identity well fits December. Evoking the many memories associated with a simple object – such as a sock, in this case – B.Miles takes a trip down memory lane, exploring all the emotional nuance associated with it.
As she explains: “You know how certain objects can trigger a flood of memories? For me, it’s Christmas socks—specifically, my ex’s Christmas socks. While going through a breakup, I found something of an unlikely metaphor in those socks: they’re an item everyone has, but are often hidden, just like the emotions I kept buried about our relationship.”
