There’s something extremely intoxicating in ‘Falling Under’. And no, we are not talking about the focus of the song, a dark, manipulative relationship. We are referring to Awaiting Abigail’s electrifying, heartshaking sonic imprint, a gloomy, hard-hitting amalgam of modern metal and nu-metal references. Guided by frontwoman Abigail’s monumental vocals, the group manages to build a listening experience that’s intense and cathartic, wrapping us all into a hypnotising pattern of destruction and fury.
Citing the likes of The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm and In This Moment as their primary influences, Awaiting Abigail boats quite a complex origin story. Calling Dallas, Texas their home, the group was first prompted together by a trio of school-era friends before assembling a talented team of like-minded musicians into a compelling sextet. Alongside vocalist Abigail Hill, we find James Smith and Mike Tolfa on Guitar, Kori Tolfa on Keys, Laurie Barnett on Bass and Heather Hammonds on Drums.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Falling Under’, Awaiting Abigail explain: “A post-grunge-metal, dark recap of a dysfunctional relationship”. We are confident that the song will resonate with a large audience; after all, everyone has encountered toxicity in their lives. The Texan group has too, yet they have used it in their favour, crafting one of their best singles to date.
