A new chapter in the fruitful collaboration between Australian creatives Avalon Kane and Stu Patterson, ‘Killing Time’ continues on the same evocative and hazy path as the pair’s previous effort ‘Dreamers’. The sonic recipe is the same; a steady and elegant dance beat wrapped in a plethora of textures and soundscapes, perfectly matching with Patterson’s ethereal and meaningful vocals.
Not as dry as its predecessor, ‘Killing Time’ is certainly more spacious and expansive, almost embarking on a shoegaze-powered journey (M83 anyone?). Of course, the overall reference is still pretty pop-powered, with Avalon Kane building a stunning sonic panorama for Stu’s luscious and introspective lyricism. The listening experience is intense, we feel as though we can escape reality, even for a mere, fleeting five minutes.
Exceptionally dreamy and nostalgic, ‘Killing Time’ celebrates once again the talented musical minds of Patterson and Kane. Hailing from Adelaide, they explain: “From new beginnings to relationships that stand the test of time, there are always things we are learning about each other. We are constantly evolving, navigating new situations…the challenge is finding the way through the layers and communicating what we need to become better versions of ourselves.”
