Emerging from Melbourne (or Naarm, in its Aboriginal name), My Giddy Aunt is the latest in a series of precious offerings from the Aussie lands, widely known as fertile territory for artistic expression. Debuting only last year, the trio has been making waves thanks to an exceptionally eclectic style, navigating everything from tame indie vibes to poppy and melodious pieces. After a plethora of singles, My Giddy Aunt reiterate their commitment to the project with a charming and telling EP, ‘All Things Come in Time’, containing past and new tracks.
All talented creatives, Océane (she/her), Luke (they/them) and Rory (he/him) really hit the mark on this one, putting together the ultimate manifesto for Giddy Aunt’s music. Opening with ‘Acceptance’, this short burst of heartfelt reckoning feels heavy and light at the same time, sharing its message in an almost theatre-like fashion. ‘You Lost’ builds over steady grooves and electronic elements, always retaining its friendly quality. ‘Sunk’ and title track ‘All Things Come in Time’ are perhaps the more authentically indie numbers on the EP, jumping to the closer episode ‘Not Mine Anymore’: a folk-infused, intimate tale of personal reckoning.
Underlining the songs, we find My Giddy Aunt’s relationship-driven lyricism, helping the listeners through a journey into the highs and lows of human experience.
