Athena Joy Returns with Fierce Pop Anthem ‘My Way’

As pop goes, ‘My Way’ is a pretty strong offering. Penned by Australian sensation Athena Joy, the record once again showcases all the strengths of a project that’s found fertile territories in alt and dark territories. Joy’s evocative vocals are steeped in reverbs and harmonies, transforming them into ethereal and cathartic goodness. It’s not a surprise: we wrote about the Brisbane-based talent in the past, describing ‘Blame it on the Brain’ as a “brooding and powerful track”.

‘My Way’ is certainly less melancholic, and perhaps even more alluring to the mainstream than its predecessor. Fear not, it still retains the same level of poignancy and emotional energy so common to the project. Just with a more lively outlook. Notably, the song reached the semi-final stage at the Listen Up Organisation‘s annual national songwriting competition.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘My Way’, Joy explains: “This song kind of feels more like a celebration of surviving, and how I’ve been working things out one step at a time, finding better versions myself along the way”.
