Among the dry desert of Albuquerque, a very talented artist seeks to shine her light as brighter as she can. Ashley Wolfe does so by seeking international recognition, debuting with a very particular pop offering, the poignant and anthemic gem ‘Hey Alright!’. In it, the listener will be faced with a definitely peculiar tune: built on acoustic guitars, steady drums and a minimal arrangement, the track provides the perfect framework for Wolfe’s hyper-pop flavoured vocals, often drenched in lo-fi sauce and quirky character. Her delivery is pretty unique, using a sort of ‘stream of consciousness’; shying away from clear signalled sections, the song just flows freely, drawing the listeners into Ashley’s poignant and convoluted lyricism.
The writing for the track is done in collaboration with fellow songwriter Keith Low, an artistic partnership that seems to be flourishing and growing. By working together, the pair crafts catchy melodies, relatable themes and a unique outlook on its sonic formula, allowing the project to stand out from the noise. Lyrically, ‘Hey Alright!’ seeks to be a rather positive pop number, bringing a tad of sunshine into the life of many.
