There’s a certain sense of solemnity in Asha Jane’s latest effort. ‘Axis’ is as majestic as you would expect, given the artistic pedigree so proudly championed by the Welsh talent. Having navigated a strong neo-soul and RnB aesthetic, Jane settles on a more eclectic artistic outlook, exploring cinematic and anthemic energy drenched in an ethereal and haunting production. That’s a perfect framework for Asha’s evocative and luscious vocals, so intense and expressive, yet retaining a high degree of dynamism.
For the keen listener, discovering the artistic magnitude of Asha Jane shouldn’t be a big surprise. Crowning a career that’s flourishing at its highest level, the Cardiff resident was chosen in 2019 for the PRS Foundation-backed artist development scheme “Forté Project”, and she is currently backed by BBC Horizons. Perhaps, Jane’s eclectic artistic vision is enhanced by her multicultural roots, allowing the project to stand out in an overly crowded industry.
Lyrically, ‘Axis’ explores the infallibility of time: between all of our struggles, anxieties and modern challenges, we can be sure to come out of the other side of it, for better or for worse. As Jane explains: “The world upon its axis will keep spinning and we’ll get by.”
