Unlike anything we have ever heard before: ‘A Higher State of Bliss’ explores the border between EDM and world music, making for a hypnotizing, vibrant record that perfectly fits the ‘fusion’ category. Behind such a masterpiece, we find Singapore-based creative Arun Shenoy, often found contaminating culture and styles into eclectic, colourful material – his 2013 breakout effort ‘Bliss’ is perfect evidence of that.
Now finding a worthy refuge in punchier electronic territories, Shenoy pens a club-ready tune that can just as well work as a pure listening experience. Built on big-room, trance-flavoured synthesisers and organic instrumentation from around the world, ‘A Higher State of Bliss’ employs a bunch of talented players, the likes of Ravi Kulur, Matthew Shell, Karl Roque, Jon Sterckx and Balachandra Prabhu.
It’s hard to remain indifferent to such an informed display of musical extravaganza. While ‘A Higher State of Bliss’ might not always appeal to the average listeners, its multicultural flair will likely appease a wide range of listeners out there, perhaps helping in taking down the barriers between global borders… every little helps.
