Arnab Sengupta Shares Jazz Album ‘Truth Be Told’

An exquisitely elegant record, ‘Truth Be Told’ deserves to be enjoyed on a quiet evening, on your best Hi-Fi system. You see, Arnab Sengupta manages to pack an album that feels soulful and celebrative, light in its lyricism yet heavy in its musical solutions. Drenched in modern jazz and soul-derived elements, ‘Truth Be Told’ sees the Sydeny-based artist showcasing his evocative and nuanced vocals, able to endeavour in long, modulating notes and charming vibrato.

Take for instance ‘Chasing The Sun’, a soothing and emotional ballad with a certain theatrical flair about it. Bebop gems such as ‘No Friend of Mine’ help the album appeal to the most purist jazz listeners out there, although the vocal charge is ever-present and highly encouraged.

We wouldn’t expect anything less from Sengupta: a talented multi-instrumentalist and lyricist, the Australia-based talent possesses immense musical knowledge, something that’s abundantly clear from listening to ‘Truth Be Told’. Speaking about the inspiration behind his songwriting, Arnab explains: “The theme is philosophical and spiritual; It presents a fresh perspective to the style of contemporary songwriting.”
