On this occasion, ‘Talk is Cheap’ doesn’t involve Chet Faker. Rather, a talented Irish group on a mission to reinvent themselves and highlight the daily troubles of Irish society. Based in Letterkenny, Arn. have been active for the past few years, balancing over indie stylings and gentle distortions, always with a keen eye for meaningful songwriting and heartwarming melodies.
They are both eclectic and traditional, always favouring personal expression over useless technicalities. ‘Talk is Cheap’ is rather relevant in this instance, as it marks the first time a song gets written collaboratively by the whole band, a feature that will no doubt reinforce the artistic bond between their members. Overall, the single keeps it simple, with melodic, intelligible vocals layered on a bed of luscious guitar tones and polite drum grooves.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Talk is Cheap’, Arn. explain: “Ireland has become stupidly expensive to live in. Highest alcohol and tobacco tax in Europe. A nationwide housing crisis that isn’t being fixed by a careless government. The frustration by everyday normal people is rife and was felt very strongly by Aaron.”
