Arliston have had a decisively positive year. We certainly did too, listening to them! Writing about ‘What Did I Think Would Happen’ earlier this year, we proudly declared it an “incredibly expansive and nuanced record, a nugget of cathartic fit into a poignant, ethereal livery”. We stand by our words; the British duo possess the ability to fit a thousand emotions into a song, creating evocative artistic tornados that completely overwhelm the listeners.
‘Disappointment Machine’ is Arliston’s latest effort. Their upcoming album’s title track, the single reveals a little bit more about what we should expect from the LP. It’s glorious: over light textures and an elegant, intimate piano, the London-based pair builds bucolic vocal arrangements, often delivered with a deep, earthy tone that’s frankly quite irresistible.
In it, Arliston delve into the idea that habits and repeated behaviours are often a harsh obstacle to true happiness. As they explain: “This song gets into the repeated pattern of behaviour which leads mechanically and invariably to disappointment. It also attempts to put into context the fact that it’s a ‘tiny problem’ and does not matter, but despite the attempts to minimise it, the feelings remain the same.”
‘Disappointment Machine’ ships with a stunning music video, courtesy of Screenology graduates Director Meriwether Freya Lewis and Producer Milly Ruston, starring Cailum Carragher as the main character.
