Aristo G Shares Dark and Retro EP ‘Overdrive’

We are pretty mesmerized by Aristo G’s retro-flavoured, bold style. Channelling dark new wave influences, the Australian creative is able to build a uniquely nuanced sound, a flow of musical goodness placing itself between tradition and modernity. ‘Overdrive’ is the project’s latest effort, a stream of retro extravaganza which never disappoints.

Drenched in obscure 80s sound design, synth-powered sweeps and sharp guitar tones, the EP is a worthy artistic journey, one that’s further enriched by Aristo G’s evocative, anthemic vocals, fiercely wrapping the listeners into cathartic and hypnotizing energy. Over four hard-hitting pieces, ‘Overdrive’ explores the depth of the human condition, from its fragility, pain, conflicts and regrets. References are far and wide, spanning from Depeche Mode to Nine Inch Nails – in fact, Aristo G himself reminds us of a young Dave Gahan.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, the Melbourne native explains: “The Overdrive EP was a chance for me to delve into diverse themes far beyond the scope navigable in my usual dancefloor-orientated music. From the assertive explosivity of the title track to the cerebral motifs of ‘Pantomime’, the Overdrive EP compiles my melodious contemplations on life, love, and the human condition”.
