I’m not entirely sure where to begin when it comes to Seattle-based guitarist, composer, and producer Ari Joshua. Having followed him for the entirety of last year, what’s clear is that his experimental approach to songwriting simply won’t be for everyone. That’s true of any artist. But what is also unquestionable is that by venturing into unknown sonic territories, he’s truly more than a musician who’s just pushing boundaries. He’s breaking them down and reinventing the whole game!
‘Elephant Walk’ is Ari’s second single of 2024 and serves as the follow-up to ‘Country Stroll’, his homage to legendary American jazz guitarist Bill Frisell. Teaming up once again with jazz icons Billy Martin (drums) and John Medeski (organ), the trio craft a bluesy, funky, and deeply hypnotic piece of music. Joshua’s guitarwork on the tune is sublime and it reverberates with a rich and resonant tone, twisting and swirling, much like an elephant lifting its trunk.
“‘In my mind, ‘Elephant Walk’ is a carefree and whimsical melody. A musical tale of a young elephant embarking on a quest for truth and freedom,” says Ari. “After millennia of proud strides within its herd, this majestic creature embarks on a soul-searching journey, meeting various animals and symbolic characters along the way”.
We can’t get enough!
