When it comes to Ari Joshua, the word that comes to mind is expert musicianship; hailing from Seattle, the talented guitarist has long championed the national jazz scene, getting fellow players together on a plethora of projects and records. ‘Let’s Do It Right Now’ released to the wild earlier this year, featuring a world-class line-up. Billy Martin, John Medeski and Jason Fraticelli are rallied by Joshua in building an eclectic jazz piece, looking at the future while drenched in tradition.
Recorded at Applehead Recording, a boutique residential studio on an old farm just outside of Woodstock, ‘Let’s Do It Right Now’ is out via Music Factory Records. Delving into the inspiration behind the piece, Joshua explains: “I met Elvin Jones at Lionel Hampton Jazz Fest in the mid-90’s and as I asked him for a photograph with my disposable camera he eagerly exclaimed ‘Ahhhhhhhh… Let’s Do It Right Now!’ Elvin had a way of being so in the moment. Billy Martin and John Medeski, have always been high on my list of artists to create with and after working closely with them it reconfirmed why on a few levels.”
