Ari Joshua Leads a Collective Into ‘Spooky’ Musical Goodness

If we had to use a word to describe ‘Spooky’, we’d use ‘hypnotising’. The latest release by Denver visionary Ari Joshua and his kaleidoscopic quartet, the track is a rather magical experience – and we don’t say that lightly. You could approach the record from multiple angles, all of them being crucial for achieving the final result. First, there’s the instrumental performance.

A minimal yet intense lineup that manages to build a haunting, sleazy yet intense sonic picture, augmented by a charming Hammond Organ and reggae-infused drum beats. A deep, constant bass gives us a strong ‘dub’ vibe, a concept that is further reinforced by the spacey and retro mix, courtesy of Jason Gray – a feature that’s really characterising the final product.

When you piece it all together, you get a compelling offering by Ari Joshua, the work of a truly inspired artist and creative, able to lead a talented collective towards musical redemption. Joining him on this journey we find Delvon Lamarr, Grant Schrof and Skerik. Not to mention, this is a one-take recording, further enhancing the organic and relatable feel so proudly championed by ‘Spooky’.

A fitting title. ‘Spooky’ really conveys a sneaky feeling, a compelling mental image that seems to delve into the most libertine side of our consciousness.
