If there’s something we can be proud of, it is the amount of early talent we get to listen to, coming from all genres and places. In our quest for music discovery, that’s what keeps us going: the feeling of having found an unheard gem, a piece of music that could perhaps make someone’s day, or deliver a meaningful message. That same feeling popped to us when we came across Arden, British singer, songwriter and producer with a knack for poignant melodies and kaleidoscopic productions. Following up on a very productive year, and from what is going to be a 10-track release cycle, the young artist recently returned to the new music scene with another slice of pop goodness, the electronic jewel ‘Silence’.
It is hard to pinpoint a definite genre when it comes to Arden’s artistic output. Of course, pop is the keyword here, but at the same time you’ll find fragments of a wide influence field, ranging from hip-hop-flavoured beats to glitchy electronica, passing from EDM-borrowed hook and a vocal tone that feels gritty, evocative and punchy (did anyone say punk-pop?)
Introduced by an emotional, ballad-like piano riff, ‘Silence’ quickly takes an anthemic, glorious shape, with a chorus that will provide the perfect sonic backdrop for a sunset with a loved one, or a late-night make-out session. It is the dualism between groovy dynamic parts and more refined ballad-pop moments that greatly informs the song, making it one of the best tunes in the artist’s catalogue so far.
Overall, there’s a lot to process here. It feels like Arden could move and grow in so many different directions, we are frankly quite excited to hear his next record.
