applied communications Announces New EP + Single ‘boyfie sale’

I was only 15 in 2005. At the time, Max Wood was already busy taking his imaginative, quirky music around the US, playfully reviewed by industry giants like Pitchfork and PopMatters. Through albums such as “Uhhh Sort Of”, Wood – aka applied communications – caused a deep rift in popular culture, with most people unable to stomach his frantic, chaotic production style and fringe songwriting. Yet, a small community of brave knights found comfort in the project, making applied communications a hidden nugget of cathartic artistry.

Now let’s take it back to 2025: TikTok has done its thing, and Wood has been rediscovered by a solid niche of music explorers. Following up from last year’s ‘Applied Communications Has a Midlife Crisis’, the Washington D.C.-based creative doubles down on his comeback with a slightly tweaked rendition of ‘Boy for Sale’, now becoming ‘boyfie sale’.

Such an effort is part of a wider EP, ‘Greatest Applied Communications Music’, “reimagining six songs from his teenage years” and is set for release on April 18th. Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the record, we are told: “It recontextualizes the youthful chaos of his older work with the patience and precision of older hands.”
