The collaboration of two Canadian newcomers, ‘Bloodshot’ is quite a unique creature. A charming blend of hyper pop and more conventional electro pop, the track constantly modulates and shifts between moods and energies, providing the perfect sonic background for the punchy and gritty vocals of Apollo Rising and sunny court. Boasting a certain rebellious and chaotic flair, the two creatives drenched themselves in autotunes and luscious goo, especially in the rock-oriented furious finale. As mentioned, that’s a very eclectic record.
Crucially, the pair’s vocals work together really well – a match made in heaven, as someone would declare. In fact, heavenly is an adjective that would fit some of the sections in ‘Bloodshot’, although well contrasted by more evil matter. A sort of musical chiaroscuro, a battle between the good and the bad.
Featuring on Apollo Rising’s EP ‘Maybe In Another Life’, ‘Bloodshot’ was born out of mutual understanding, especially over past experiences and painful scars. This makes for a rather authentic collaboration, not driven by commercial motives but rather by solid artistic integrity.
