Anton Commissaris Showcases His Crooning Voice in ‘Closer To You’

Writing about Anton Commissaris earlier this year, we proudly declared: It is surprising to observe his musical eclecticism: from Jazz to Latin, passing through Soul and Rock’n’Roll, there’s no telling where he might end up”. The American songwriter’s latest effort once again confirms that rule, leaving bluesy territories behind in favour of elegant and soothing crooning. Embracing his jazz personality, Commissaris delivers a light and charismatic record, built on a vintage, straight jazz arrangement and magical piano playing.

Anton’s feathery, evocative and mellow vocals are what makes ‘Closer To You’ an absolute gem. Echoing musical heroes such as Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder, Commissaris makes a definite statement about his artistry, helping us connect through familiar and relatable sonic fragments. Based in Menlo Park, California, it is clear that the project has a lot to give yet – we’ll be here supporting.

Describing the lyrical meaning behind the track, Anton explains: “The song sets the stage for the story of a man who is determined to get closer to a lovely woman of his infatuation. She has yet to notice and reciprocate his feelings, but he is determined to win her over and will be as patient as needed. This song is for all the men who refuse to give up on their dreams of romance with a special woman; for those who believe that romantic resolve will win the day.”
