Antoine Guigan Pushes the Boundaries in ‘NO PANTS ALLOWED’

Operating firmly on the fringe, Antoine Guigan is what we’d define as a sonic voyager, an adventurous composer and producer with a keen eye for eclecticism and bold aural explorations. His music bears the fruits of such character, with diverse forays into electronica and avant-garde territories. ‘NO PANTS ALLOWED’ is the strongest evidence of that: the project’s latest effort, the record showcases everything mentioned above, enduring a long, vibrant and kaleidoscopic collection of playful and memorable pieces.

At this very moment we are listening to ‘MAGMA CREATURES’, a track that takes a whimsical, inventive approach towards classical timbres and orchestral solutions, all distilled with pointillstic flair and strategic dissonance. Elsewhere, ‘LE JARDIN’ feels way smoother and kinder, wrapping listeners in atmospheric soundscapes and poignant harmonies, yet with a few easter eggs in it. The keyword here is elegance, or rather… buoyant playfulness.

‘PEARL’ refocuses our attention on big beats and noisy synths, embracing a certain vintage MIDI fashion through it all. This could have been vaporwave – if only Guigan had gone heavier on textures and post-processing. ‘WHITE SAVIOUR’ sounds prophetic, anthemic, and just like the rest of the album, absolutely unpredictable. We believe that to be a great compliment.
