Debuting earlier this summer with ‘Soft Core’, Atlanta-based outfit ANTHMZ now returns with ‘Summer Queen’, a track that’s decisively more furious and chaotic than its predecessor, yet still serving the same lyrical fierceness. Built on British and early indie influences (we spot some Oasis in there), the record is drenched in fuzziness and guitar energy, even extending to the vocals.
Such leftfield sonic livery reveals a certain psych element to the band’s musical character. ANTHMZ don’t care much about making it pretty, instead focusing on pure, unfiltered sonic catharsis. Wrapping the listeners into a fragmented and passionate rock-fuelled journey, the American quartet showcases very clearly what they are made of. It’s the willingness to be themselves, no matter the current trends of the industry.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, ANTHMZ explains: “Summer Queen is a swirling psychedelic rock and roll gem about summer lust and the reckless abandon of new love. Turn it up loud and enjoy the ride!”. Kyle Gordon, Houston B Perry, Matt Foster and Mark Garretson are the talents behind the music.
