Once in a while, a song comes along that’s so captivating, absorbing, and sonically mesmerizing that you simply cannot look away! It beckons you into its sonic universe and leaves an indelible imprint on your musical soul. With all that in mind, please welcome Annstiina, a singer/songwriter, pianist, and producer from Järvenpää in Finland. About a week ago, the artist released her brand new single ‘Berlin’, and it’s a pulsating and ethereal little tune that I find myself drawn to more and more. With every listen, it feels as though I uncover another layer of the track, as Annstiina showcases a sound that’s filled with hidden intricacies and complexity.
“‘Berlin’ is about trying to escape reality with the help of a stranger,” says the artist. “It’s kind of a siren song, tempting the listener to give in after the sort of cat-and-mouse game”. The tune’s lyrics are based on a real-life story from one of Annstiina’s nightclub experiences, and tell the tale of a man who the singer thinks is from Berlin.
I’m not prepared to put a label on ‘Berlin’. I love it just for what it is – a fresh, inventive, and fascinating piece of music. Annstiina is a seriously exciting new musician to keep an eye on, and I can’t wait to hear what she comes up with next!
