Annie and the Jays Sign the Year Off with Eclectic EP ‘DUSK’

Closing off their debut year with a bang, Edinburgh-based outfit Annie and the Jays unveil their first EP, ‘DUSK’. A nugget of hazy indie stylings and meaningful lyricism, the record showcases the sonic wealth the group has to offer, blending intimate songwriting with a more contemporary and expansive sonic livery. That’s the ethos behind Annie and the Jays: the union of two seemingly different worlds, converging into one impressive result.

Annie’s evocative, luscious vocals help keen listeners lose themselves in the subject matter, reflecting on lust and the many insecurities surrounding love and relationships. A topic that will sound familiar to many, perfectly framed in the Jays’ eclectic, genre-bending musical extravaganza. From the ballad, poignant notes of ‘Drifting Out’, to ‘Too Shallow’s energetic and rowdy aura.

Overall, the Scottish band seems to have found their musical identity, and while we expect them to get better and better in 2025, ‘DUSK’ is already a compelling body of work, one that will likely catch a few wandering eyes in the music industry. Speaking about the record, Annie and the Jays explain: “The EP is themed around love, lust and insecurity and the way that, unchecked, you can begin to lose yourself in them.”
