Andrew Alarcon Shares Hazy, Evocative Album ‘Frenzy’

We enjoyed reading about the circumstances that brought ‘Frenzy’ to life. Originally focused on an acoustic, singer-songwriter outlook, Andrew Alarcon gradually shifted towards a more expansive, ethereal sonic imprint, noticing a stark change in the depth and quality of his self-expression. Now packing his songs with immensely evocative walls of dreamy textures and luscious guitar tones, the American creative makes ‘Frenzy’ an important stepping stone, a big change from his previous album ‘Mute at Midnight’.

Citing ‘Everyone’ as the track that sparked his transition into modern dream pop and melancholic shoegaze territories, Alarcon’s songwriting certainly feels more grounded, heavier even. Backed by a modern, hazy full band, Andrew also enjoys building heavenly vocal harmonies, drenched in spacious reverb and a glorious aura. Yet – as the title track would confirm – there’s still a great deal of rock and post-rock action in the record, potentially making it palatable to a wider public.

Speaking about the creative process behind the LP, Alarcon explains: “When the album was finished, and we were finally able to reflect on it as one cohesive piece, it was clear that the album was a sonic embodiment of the phrase ‘frenzy,’ capturing the chaotic thoughts that dominated my twenties.”
