A delightful collection of light, yet meaningful pieces, ‘Zero More +Or- Less’ has provided a surprising listening experience for us. Expecting a classic singer-songwriter-type record, we were instead served an eclectic plate of folk, chamber pop and anything in between, showcasing the depth of action and musical prowess enjoyed the project.
Hailing from Albany, Australia, AmurRayz is the talented figure behind such a nuanced and inspired album. Over eleven tracks, the Aussie troubadour delivers guitar folk and country energy together with a healthy selection of orchestral woodwinds and string instruments. The result is an enticing melting pot of influences and references, yet still focused on existential lyricism, delivered by the evocative and earthy vocals of AmurRayz.
Speaking about the songwriting behind the album, the Australian creative explains: “The title of the album is taken from existence being such a simple and seemingly precarious move either way from nothing. The songs sing of being, place, love, war, beyond religion, possible afterlife, breaking drought and travel”. He also refers to his unique style of eclectic pop as ‘Windoling music’.
