Announcing their return to the studio to record the upcoming album ‘Qualia’, Norwegian outfit Ambrosius are adamant in reminding us of their previous effort, ‘Pathways’. Released earlier this year, the record served as the group’s debut album, a slice of eclectic rock matter with a certain folk energy to it. ‘Anach Cuain’ is the strongest evidence of that, an ancient Irish song reworked with avant-garde, cathartic energy.
Don’t let that give you the wrong idea though: tracks such as ‘Shadow Logic’ remind us of the guitar-powered talent enjoined by Ambrosius. There are also folk-like fiddles in it, a sign that references are still wide and open-minded. Honestly, the Oslo-based project’s sonic identity is quite unique, mainly because of the classic rock imprint mixed with soothing, mellower stylings.
Released via Fajo Music, ‘Pathways’ is still a relevant and electrifying album – perhaps not for everyone, as it definitely sits in a bit of a niche. We are curious if ‘Qualia’ – expected for next year – will widen the project’s target audience. Either way, Ambrosius are a bright promise for the future, and we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for more music.
