It feels like a lifetime ago when we wrote about Ally Cribb’s previous EP ‘Unbroken’. Praising the nuanced songwriting work of the Canadian songstress, we proudly declared it as “crystalline vocals and intimate, heartfelt songwriting. And how couldn’t it be? Cribb’s story is one of grief, pain and resilience”. True to her established brand, Ally returns with a new EP, ‘Now’, a record that expands the narrative around her artistry.
Doubling down on the extensive ‘coming of age’ theme so central to her first long-playing, Cribb delves deeper into the ups and downs of early adulthood, dealing with hurdles and pains that will make her stronger and more resilient in the long run. Such worthy lyricism is layered on top of alt-country and pop stylings, completely at the service of the Torontonian talent’s luscious vocals.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Now’, she explains: “There’s so much that happens in every person’s life at this age, when it feels like you have one foot in childhood and one foot in adulthood. I write about what I experience. And after struggling with letdowns and heartbreak, I felt these stories deeply. I thought there must be others out there who might share those feelings.”
