Often time you’ll meet someone capable of enhancing your artistry. Perhaps you’ll sync on the same creative frequencies, creating outstanding and surprising material. That’s exactly what happened to Alexis LaBarba, finding a proficient artistic partner in fellow creative Maxx Fill. Both active in Los Angeles, their meeting is described as “we started playing shows together around New York City in 2021 and fell into writing many songs in between. We then decided to co-write an EP blending funk with indie”. And so they did: ‘New Wave’, released in November last year, was the first sign of what was to come. It was glorious; elegant, classy and subliminal electronica, underlining exquisite pop lyricism with heavenly vocal tones. What more could you want?
Now, the American duo continues their journey to stardom by providing an exciting re-work of the previous single. Perhaps wanting to embrace a brighter, more exuberant character, the track takes a summery approach, deconstructing the already existing sonic material into electro funk-flavoured matter, a fitting environment for LaBarba’s evocative and charming vocal tone. Maxx Fill’s eclectic electronica roots are very evident in the track.
Described as a ‘Supercharged’ version of ‘New Wave’, the record is an absolute floor-filler and wonderful track for the next few months.
