We are pretty used to over-produced records and metaphorical lyricism these days, so when we come across simple, relatable gems such as ‘Missing’, we are naturally drawn to it. The listening experience is light and engaging, playful yet meaningful and purposeful. Built over stripped-back folk and pop stylings, the track moves slowly, with confidence, driven by Alexa Lash’s evocative vocals.
The Miami-based talent celebrated Women’s Month (back in March), seeking an alternative viewpoint towards the ‘poignant relationship’ theme. Not just a romantic one, but one that exists in the family and friends dimension – perhaps the most important one for a person’s development. Often, those are the relationships that slip through our fingers as we grow up.
Looking at it from a woman’s standpoint, Lash packs ‘Missing’ with gentle, soothing vibes and true, authentic songwriting. It is a stunning display of musical prowess, very relevant when considering the big picture she’s operating in. As Alexa explains: “I wrote a lot about love and romantic relationships, and I love those songs, but I’ve been writing so much about the other kinds of relationships that exist in our lives: relationships with family, friends, the world. And above all, the relationship to yourself.”
