Alex Starling Returns with Introspective Gem ‘Maybe We Lost It’

Boasting a long career in music, Alex Starling has taken part in an impressive string of projects, from the likes of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool to his own solo project The Ghosts. Now, the London-based creative returns to perhaps his most authentic moniker, releasing new music under the ‘Alex Starling’ livery. Latest effort ‘Maybe We Lost It’ follows up from 2021’s ‘Tunnelling for Villains’, seemingly embracing a mellower, more reflective sonic imprint.

It’s a triumph: over a gentle yet anthemic instrumental, Starling layers hazy, cathartic vocals, wrapping the listeners in understated energy and a fashionable nostalgic character. The tendency towards ethereal textures and a more elegant arrangement is striking, perhaps showcasing Alex’s maturity – with personal and artistic growth comes wisdom. In fact, such an idea is partly mirrored in the song’s lyrical theme.

Speaking about the inspiration behind it, Starling explains: “The track delves into themes of transformation, disillusionment, and the haunting feeling of not recognising the people—or life—you once knew.” A highly relatable subject matter, which we are confident will connect with a wide range of listeners around the globe.
